Track Orientation, Rider/Driver Evaluation (TORDE):  Anyone wishing to participate in an open track day, regardless of track experience, must take the Miller’s Driving School T.O.R.D.E.  With the different levels of experience, it is very important to have everyone on the same page.

Start the day by checking in at registration. At registration you should receive:

  1. A schedule for the day with the Driver’s meeting classroom location designated. T.O.R.D.E. will follow after the Driver’ meeting in the same location.
  2. or a Driver’s meeting in note form – if the latter, T.O.R.D.E. classroom will be in the Welcome Center.
  3. Automobile Self-tech form

Please attend or read the Driver’s meeting notes. This ensures everyone participating in the day to start, is clear on the rules of participation for that day.

T.O.R.D.E. consists of a 30 minute classroom session focusing on flag communications and situations that occur that call for the use of the flags. We will also go over registration procedures with Track Ops for the future. Next will be a 10 minute van session to orient the participant to the course offered that day and to introduce the race line. Finally an instructor ride along in the second to last session of the morning is offered to evaluate the participant’s ability to handle the race surface and also to assess the degree of awareness of the race environment. The last 20 or so minute “Street car” session of the morning is then yours for practice, shared with other more experienced participants.

The racetrack is a special place, an environment where you can take your equipment and skills to the limit. T.O.R.D.E. is not designed to offer all the information needed to make you a safe driver or one capable of extracting the maximum from your car. Be patient, seek instruction when you need it and work up to it slowly, with safety foremost in mind. The key to improvement is seat time so, keep at it!
