TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (April 27, 2011) — The first major event of the 2011 season at Miller Motorsports Park takes place this weekend, April 29 – May 1, when the green flag flies over the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix.
The event will include seven races from five different racing series over the course of two days, with lots of fun and excitement for fans both on and off the track.
“It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for this weekend to get here,” said John Larson, General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park, “but we’re excited to kick off our 2011 season with the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix and we think it’s going to be an event that our fans won’t soon forget.”
The headline series of the weekend will be the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, which is making its fifth annual appearance at Miller Motorsports Park. Supporting race series include the SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge Championships and Trans-Am Championship, plus the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama and the Pirelli Drivers Cup USA.
Friday’s schedule includes practice and qualifying for all the series except the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Admission is free for everyone on Friday. On Saturday, the Pirelli Drivers Cup USA and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge will each hold the first of their two races, and the SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge Championships and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will hold their feature races. Sunday’s schedule includes the second races for the Pirelli Drivers Cup USA and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge and the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Championship feature race.
Off the track, there will be a variety of activities for fans to enjoy. These include Miller Motorsports Park’s brand-new Zip Line, karting at the Miller Kart Center, rock-crawling rides in Jeeps, ride-alongs in track-prepped Ford Mustangs from MMP’s Ford Racing High Performance Driving School and a free autocross in which fans can drive their own cars. In addition, the Larry H. Miller Total Performance Museum will be open at no cost.
Single-day tickets are priced at $25 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday, with two-day tickets priced at $30. Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge. The World Superbike BigM Weekend is Utah's Memorial Day tradition, mixing motorcycles, music and military. The FIM Superbike World Championship returns for a fifth year, making its only visit in the Western Hemisphere at Miller Motorsports Park. The production-based bullet bikes from Yamaha, Ducati, Honda, BMW, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Aprilia will batte at up to 200 mph with some of the world's best riders dragging knees and banging elbows. The weekend will include live music and a major military tribute. Support races and music acts will be announced in the near future.
