TEEN DRIVING SCHOOL /

View Calendar

Conventional public school driver education introduces your teen to fundamental skills of vehicle operation.

Private driving academies can refine these skills, further developing your teen’s ability to navigate public roadways.

But neither prepare your teen for how to react in emergency situations.  When just a split-second counts, will they know what to do?

Only the Teen Emergency Driving Skills Clinic at Miller Motorsports Park has the expertise and specialized equipment to teach your teen potentially life-saving skills in a safe, controlled environment.

Our low-cost, four hour program will help your son or daughter learn the techniques necessary to escape and recover from emergency situations - so that when they're faced with the unpredictable…they’ll know exactly what to do.

Our Program

A half-hour classroom session introduces expanded concepts of driving including anti-lock braking, vehicle dynamics and managing tire contact with differing levels of grip across changing conditions.

The classroom session is followed by a full three hours of direct, in-vehicle instruction in our fleet of Miller Ford Focus automobiles and our specially-prepared Miller skid car.  The skid car, a unique Ford mid-sized sedan with hydraulically adjustable “outriggers,” can simulate all kinds of low-grip situations including sliding on snow and ice, and in itself provides invaluable lessons in skid recovery.

Specific Exercises

Slalom Course

Students maneuver their Ford Focus through a series of cones to work on elevated vision skills, specific and proper steering technique, and learn the difficulty of executing even the most basic skills when elements of distraction are introduced.

Emergency Lane Change

Students contend with a simulated, sudden blockage of the road ahead at ever increasing speeds up to 45 mph, learning not only to “look to safety” and steer there, but also the skills necessary to pitch a modern vehicle into a moment of instability followed by controlled recovery.

Emergency Braking

Students are challenged and encouraged at increasing speeds (up to 50 mph) to develop brake “feel” in modern, anti-lock system equipped vehicles.  Our curriculum includes both braking in a straight line and while steering, demonstrating the distances required to safely stop under differing circumstances.

Skid Car

If the front of a car was “pushing” to the edge of the pavement on a treacherous mountain curve, would your teen know how to react?  If the rear of the car suddenly slid outward, would they know how to recover?

In our Miller skid car, we safely simulate exactly these types of circumstances and progressively teach your teen driver how to cope.  With an instructor in the passenger seat at all times, we coach vision, anticipation and reaction skills until your teen is equipped for any and all situations.

Each clinic has a maximum enrollment of twelve students.  With three instructors there is never a ratio larger than 4-1, ensuring a personalized approach in the development of your teen’s abilities.

The Cost: $250

It's less than the price of single monthly car payment, the cost of your teen’s insurance deductible, a new touch-screen cell phone or certainly a trip to the Emergency Room.  And you’ll further find the skills learned will help your teen remain a safe driver, which will qualify them in the future for larger discounts from many national automobile insurance companies.

Please call the Miller Performance Training Center at 435-277-8794 for details and scheduling arrangements.

Last of all, for your teen...it’s fun!!!

In the earliest days of our program, teens frequently arrived with the attitude that the clinic was a form of punishment, or were simply there because “my parents made me come.”

Without fail, each student leaves our facility not only with a much higher level of driving skill…but also with a wide smile from an unforgettable experience.
