Another Success for ‘Drive Away Hunger’ Charity Event
- November 23, 2009
The second annual “Drive Away Hunger” charity event at Miller Motorsports Park on November 7 generated food and cash donations for needy families as well as big smiles for its participants.
“Drive Away Hunger,” which benefits the Utah Food Bank, allowed fans to drive their street cars on the racetrack in exchange for donations of non-perishable foods or cash.
A total of 1,542 pounds of food, equivalent to 1,205 meals, and $800 in cash was donated by generous participants. A total of 174 vehicles took laps on MMP’s 4.5-mile Full Course.
“It is a pleasure to be able to present an event like ‘Drive Away Hunger,’” said John Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park. “Not only does it allow us to give back to the community that has been so generous to us, but we get to do so in a fun way that lets participants enjoy a taste of life on the other side of the guardrail. We’re looking forward to next year’s event, and we hope to be able to set a new record for donations.”
“We are experiencing an unprecedented number of requests for food assistance and every donation we receive makes a big impact,” said Jim Pugh, Executive Director of Utah Food Bank. “The amount of food and funds collected during the ‘Drive Away Hunger’ event was incredible and something for which we’re extremely thankful.”
