Turpin Takes Seven Wins in Seven Starts for New Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains Record

  • June 24, 2009
TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH —

Shane Turpin's experience and home-track advantage shone in Round 3 of the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountain series, held June 20-21 at Miller Motorsports Park. Turpin had seven starts and seven wins, taking the checkered flag in half of the weekend's races.

"The toughest part was jumping from bike to bike. They're all so different," said Turpin. He used five different bikes in the seven races, including a Buell 1125R, Ducati 1098R, Bimota DB5, Triumph 675 and Suzuki GSX-R1000. "This season I'm running the Masters of the Mountain and MRA series, so I'm trying to stay fit and be as fast as I can without making any mistakes. I'd like to thank Joe Denning at Pikes Peak Harley Davidson, Salt Lake Motorsport, Michelin and Fastline Race Tire, Fox, Oakley and Redline Oils. I couldn’t do it without them."

Seven wins is Turpin's personal best and a new all-time single-day wins record for Miller Motorsports Park.

Jimmy Wood and Brandt Wiwi battled in Middleweight Superbike, Open Superstock and Middleweight Superstock with Wood winning every race and Wiwi in a close second. In the amateur ranks, Shannon Pitre won the Amateur GTO and GTU races and had a strong showing in the expert ranks.

The seven-race Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains series, developed by Miller Motorsports Park, organized by the Utah Sportbike Association (USBA) and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), was created to encourage and develop fun and competitive road racing at the club and regional levels. In its fourth year, the series has quickly turned into a premier event drawing top-level talent from around the nation.
